Congratulations to the Workloads Committee on their excellent work and recommendations for 2010. Particular thanks to Lindsey Napier for chairing this committee. Lindsey and I will be writing to academic staff about 2010 workload process very soon.

Thank you all once again for your hard work, commitment to the Faculty of Education and Social Work and support throughout 2009. I do wish you all a joy filled, relaxing and peaceful time over the festive season and a very happy and successful 2010.

University crest NEWUPDATE ON NEW BRAND STATIONERY:

As you may know ordering of stationery with the new University logo is about to commence.

Letterheads and ‘With Compliment’ Slips:

The Faculty is not supporting individual letterheads or with compliment slips. Instead we will order bulk of both. Templates will be available from UPS website (I will also be placing a link in the BULLETIN when they are available).

Business Cards:

Those who work closely with external parties to the University or have existing business cards are asked to send through their details on k.zmijewski@edfac.usyd.edu.au by Friday 18th December 2009.

Old business cards are to be returned to me as soon as possible.

I will be sending a spreadsheet with all order details to UPS this Friday 18th December 2009 paid by the Faculty; any order after this date will need to provide an account code.

ENGAGING RESEARCH: Innovative Partnerships for Education and Social Change

18th February 2010

The Research Division would like to invite all academic staff to our Research Partnerships Event, which will be conducted on the 18th February 2010 in room 351, Education Building A35.

Researcpuzzleh Division is sponsoring the event to celebrate our current and recent research activities by inviting our research funding partners to talk about the value of doing research with the Faculty. The event – Engaging Research: Innovative Partnerships for Education and Social Change – will bring together the Faculty’s government, business and community project partners to highlight key collaborations which have emerged from the work of Faculty researchers. An invitation has also been extended to other agencies and organisations which have an interest or stake in the work of the Faculty and might see value in developing partnerships and projects with Faculty researchers.

Staff will have a chance to debrief, mingle with our highly valued research partners and meet potential funding partners and at a morning tea held in the staff common room on level four after the event.

There are well over 2000 undergraduate and pre-service students in the Faculty. These students in 2010 will be in a range of Programs:

  • BEd Primary
  • BEd Combined (Humanities / Maths and Science)
  • BEd Early Childhood (from 2010)
  • BEd Human Movement
  • MTeach Primary
  • MTeach Secondary
  • BA / BSWork

Associate Dean Undergraduate and Pre-service Programs (Welfare and Student Progression) responsibilities include:

  • Co-Chair the UG and Pre-service committee in the Faculty
  • Conduct Student at Risk interviews (soon to be known as Academic Progression and Student Support interviews)
  • Hear appeals against academic decisions
  • Conduct plagiarism interviews
  • Sign off on requests for Special Consideration, Undergraduate and Pre-service overseas applications
  • Participate in Program application processing
  • Attend enrolment days for Undergraduate and pre-service programs
  • Attend University-wide committees and working parties relevant to the area of responsibility (e.g. Student Academic Progression Working Party)
  • Participate in Faculty-wide committees and working parties relevant to the area of responsibility (e.g. Teaching and Learning Committee)
  • Liaise and support the Faculty’s First Year Experience Coordinator

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Please submit your manuscript or abstract online to http://bai2010.org BEST PAPERS About five to ten percent (5-10%) accepted papers will be select as Best Papers. The Best Papers list will be announced in conference program.

PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITIES

All full papers accepted in conference may be considered to be published in the Contemporary Management Research (CMR), a refereed, serial publication of BAI conference with ISSN number. The authors may decide to submit or not their manuscripts to CMR. Authors who hope to submit manuscripts to CMR MUST follow the procedure of CMR manuscript submission.

Outstanding papers will be considered for publication in the International Journal of Business and Information (IJBI). IJBI applies a much more rigorous and lengthy review process, and it is more selective in the articles it publishes than does CMR. Whereas CMR is published in conjunction with BAI annual conference, IJBI is not associated directly with any conference. The journal articles published in IJBI are completely independent of annual conference participation and presentation.

There is no page charge for IJBI. However, the CMR imposes page fees on all accepted manuscripts. These fees are necessary to offset the very substantial cost of putting a manuscript into print. The CMR page fee is $25.00 per page.

HISTORY OF BAI CONFERENCE

International Conference on Business and Information (BAI) is an annual meeting for scholars around the world. Papers are invited from all related areas of Business and Information. The BAI2009 had been held at Parkroyal Hotel Kuala Lumpur, July 06-08, 2009. The BAI2008 had been held at JW Marriott Hotel, Seoul, July 07-09, 2008. The BAI 2007 had been held at InterContinental Hotel, Tokyo Bay, Tokyo, July 10-13, 2007. The BAI 2006 had been held at Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore, July 12-14, 2006. The BAI 2005 had been held at the Hong Kong Harbour Plaze Hotel, July 14-15, 2005. The BAI 2004 had been held at the Chientan Youth Activity Center, Taipei City, Taiwan, March 26, 2004.

The aim of the BAI Conference is to serve as a forum for scholars of the business and information disciplines. The BAI Conference has been established on a global basis. In 2009, BAI conference had received submissions from 39 countries including Austria, Australia, Bangladesh, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Macau, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, and Uzbekistan. Each submission was peer-reviewed by anonymous reviewers and a total of 401 papers are accepted for presentation in the conference. Researchers of all five continentals of the world, Asia, Europe, America, Australia and Africa, attend the meeting. Accepted papers are scheduled for presentation in 62 parallel sessions and also one poster session.

CONFERENCE FEE

  1. No matter the paper is single authored or multi-authored, if you would like to have the paper published in the proceedings, you need to pay registration fee US$300 for each paper before March 31, 2010 or US$350 after March 31, 2010.
  2. In case the paper is multi-authored and more than one author would like to participate in the conference, each participant needs to make registration and pays the registration fee separately. (US$300 before March 31, 2010 or US$350 after March 31, 2010)
  3. Every registered participant will get one set of conference package, which covers admission to all conference sessions, two luncheons, four coffee breaks, a copy of conference proceedings in CD-ROM format, and one year (four issues) of Contemporary Management Research.

PAPER FORMAT AND FINAL SUBMISSION

Paper format is available at the website http://bai2010.org The final version should be submitted electronically via conference submissions system. Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word. The conference follows the format of Academy of Management Journal. This format is available at the AMJ’s website http://aom.pace.edu/amjnew/style_guide.html. Guidelines and sample pages are available at http://bai2010.org/manuscript_submission.html. In general, the paper must be prepared the way you want it to appear in the proceedings. Authors could choice to publish their full papers or one page abstracts in the conference proceedings (ISSN 1729-9322) in CD-ROM. All papers must be original and not published anywhere. However, the authors do not need to transfer copyright of papers or abstracts included in the proceedings. This means authors could submit their articles for journals or books after conference. Deadline for final submission (full papers or abstracts, authors could choice to publish their full papers or one page abstracts in the conference proceedings) is March 31, 2010. If authors do not submit their final version manuscripts, the first submission manuscripts will be used for the conference proceedings. That is, March 31, 2010 is the last date to update or revise the manuscript. After that, conference proceeding will be finalized.

This Sixth International Conference on Technology, Knowledge and Society examines a range of critically important themes in the various fields that address the complex and subtle relationships between technology, knowledge and society.
